Arizona team Sunday - Monday

Sunday night, we traveled to Prayer Mountain with the missionaries. We enjoyed our surroundings, and spent some time in prayers. We reflected upon our day, and then sang worship songs. This gave us an opportunity to connect with the missionaries. After this, we ate a traditional Apache dinner at The Kennel. We were able to get to know some of the kids from the tribe as well.
Monday morning, we spent time reading scripture for our morning devotion. Jerry started a discussion about prayer, and the importance of giving thanks to God. We discussed how we can pray for the Apache Youth Ministries (AYM) and the Apache tribe. Later on, we went to The Kennel to hear Meredith, a missionary, talk about the cause of poverty. She brought up an interesting point about poverty. We were shocked to hear that the root cause of poverty is different than what we believed. Meredith gave us a better perspective on how the Apache feel, and how we can bring hope to them. Needless to say, we were all moved by the presentation. Then, we went to Fort Apache, which is a historical ground on the reservation. We had lunch, and went to the museum. We learned much about the culture of the Apache. We found that some of the traditions have changed over the years.
When we arrived back at the church, we started our preparations for dinner. We had a spaghetti dinner for AYM, which included Jon, Ron, and Ron’s family. Ron is the leader of AYM. We wanted to show love and give back to the missionaries. We had some great conversations about serving on the reservation during dinner, and during our devotion.
We found that our trip has impacted us and the missionaries more than we originally thought. We found that our mission trip to the reservation is largely relationship-oriented. We were excited about spreading love to the missionaries, but we wanted to do more for the community. We talked to Jon, who mentioned that he was thankful that we were pouring into him. He is constantly pouring love into the Apache youth, but no one is pouring into him. It is nice for us to be giving him encouragement, so that he can continue to improve his work on the reservation.
