Wednesday night, we continued with our “missionary love” activities. We gave the missionaries a “Around the World in 80 Days” t-shirt and a DVD from The Story. After that, we set up paint supplies to paint pictures to put up in The Kennel. The missionaries really enjoyed painting on the canvas, even John. We painted pictures that resemble hope to the Apache Youth. Meredith was excited to replace the old paintings with new ones. After they left, we discussed the night and our plans for the end of the week.
Thursday morning, we had a devotion about fear and how to let go of fear. After we ate breakfast, we went to Kinishba Ruins, which are the remains of a village built by Native American tribes. We enjoyed seeing this historical landmark, as many have visited these ruins. It was neat to see that this landmark has been kept up since the 1200s. We took a group picture by the ruins, and went to Fort Apache for lunch.
Pete, the pastor of White River Apache Christian Church, found us at Fort Apache. Apparently, he was trying to find our group to finish a story. We enjoyed talking to him about his relationships with the Apache Tribe. He told us many stories, which left us with feelings of excitement and awe. After this we went on a “prayer walk” to the Apache high school and hospital. We went to each place, and prayed for the Apache Tribe and employees.
We found that nurses from Johns Hopkins work at the hospital for a specific amount of time. The nurses work there for about four months. Johns Hopkins works with the hospital staff in developing a Suicide Prevention Program as well. We were happy to hear that Johns Hopkins’ employees are helping to improve the hospital on the reservation. After our “prayer walk,” we headed back to the church and reflected upon our day.
