The streets of
Mathare Valley are streets without name. No visible street signs. Mostly just
narrow passageways that led to homes with tin roofs. From these streets, children have come from
Mathare Valley every day of VBS. This
week these children their eyes have been opened to the reality that there is a
world beyond their streets without names.
I have been in the India room along with Rick Conniff. During our time
together with the children, we have had the children pray for a child named
“Hema” by writing their names on a post-it-note banner. They have written such
messages, “I love you Hema”, among many other messages. Their hearts have connected to children just
like them half a world away.
Tomorrow will be the last day of our VBS and we will return
to our homes on Tuesday. The teachers and social workers will still be there
ministering with these children. Children
on streets without names. Children who often don’t hold social status in the
eyes of their own country. They love these children just like their own, with a
love that is from Christ alone. Pray
that these teachers and social workers will pour into their lives the reality
that there is a world beyond their streets without names. However, pray, most of all, that these social
workers/teachers, realize that they are not just teaching, they are impacting
generations that will change the course of the country of Kenya.
