Fiesta de Mexico
Alan Stengel and Mike Gallagher
Thursday 8/14
Thursday we had the privilege to help serve and host a kick
off party for the students of UDLAP (Universidad de las Américas Puebla) at the Casa Verde with El Pozo staff. Our
team helped the staff of El Pozo set up tables and chairs, prepare food, grill,
clean and tidy the place up before students arrived. Once students arrived,
some of our team were able to interact and build relationships with the
students while Mike, Alan, Gene, and Marcus helped keep the grill going strong.
After about an hour of food and fellowship we went inside and everyone got a
chance at a little karaoke. It was great to see some students we met at the
event on Tuesday night break out of there shell. It was a blessing to the staff
of El Pozo and a great way for 200+ students to open up the semester!
As a current and former college student it was motivating
for us to be able to play a small part in making the students feel welcomed. We
know first-hand how important college ministry is. It was humbling to get to
have interactions and get to know the students of UDLAP and get a taste of
college ministry in a different culture. These students come from all over the
world and a variety of cultural experience.
It was amazing to see how welcoming the students were to us
“gringos”
This experience has challenged us with the question “how can
we be intentional and on mission with our young adult community back
home”. As Christians we are called to be
the light to our peers. Seeing the El Pozo staff interact with the students of
UDLAP was incredibly humbling yet motivating. We’re thankful for such an amazing trip and
opportunity and cannot wait to be more intentional and focus on building the
community once we get back home!
