Viva Mexico - MCC GO team (yesterday) Sat 9-Aug

Viva Mexico!
After many months of preparation and fundraising the day has finally arrived! We’ve made it to Puebla, Mexico!

It’s only day one, but it has already been made so clear that God has an amazing plan for this team. For months the Mexico team struggled to raise the needed funds for this trip. Even up until the week before departure, the finances were presenting a huge obstacle.  In that final week before the trip we all saw God move, as the funds poured in at the last second! It was EPIC ;)

At 2:45am our team of 18 gathered in the NLC parking lot.  Some of us had just dragged ourselves out of bed, others had come straight from “The Event” and pulled all nighters.  Our friends and family had come to pray and see us off.

During our many, many, MANY hours of travel there were lots of laughs and interesting moments –  selfies with the pilot; Sarah Willey dragging around the giant yellow bag of electronics (which we name Old Yeller); and the barfing kid on our tiny prop plane to Newark, just to name a few.  And through it all, we’ve already begun to grow closer as a team.

A few hours after arriving to Mexico City airport we finally met up with Amber Simon.  That was actually the first moment our team was all together.

Ordering food “en Espanol” at the Mexico City airport was our first cultural experience.  It went better for some than others. Alan Stangel for example start yelling “Nien Nien (sp?)” …which is German… so that was wrong.

After arriving at the BAM (Business As Mission) center, we met the missionaries and staff of the “El Pozo” campus ministry that we will be serving with this week.  One of those missionaries, is our good friend, Mountain’s very own, Jordan Reed. Jordan participated in this very missions trip last year and completely fell in love with the “El Pozo” ministry.  So much in fact, that he’s returned to Puebla, Mexico as a missionary and full time staff member of “El Pozo”.  It is exciting to see and support our friend as he is fulfilling God’s calling on his life.

As day one comes to an end, we are all exhausted.  But more than that, we are excited and for what this week will bring!

Peace Out,
Rachel Hayes & Tamara Munroe
