"embracing the culture" Mexico GO Team Day Three

August 10, 2015

Today we had breakfast at Casa Verde then we got right to work! The missionaries needed our help getting ready for the University students’ arrival.  The event for college students called En Vivo is tomorrow night. One of the jobs was to redecorate the front room that students see right as they walk in. The missionaries wanted to make it more inviting and eye-catching. Half of us took on that task and went shopping for more furniture and decorations. The other half of us worked in the large gathering space (worship room) and for most of the day we scraped old paint off the wall. It was no easy task and took a while.  We then sanded the walls and put the first coat of paint on. Even though we were doing a tedious task, we were able to get to know the missionaries and each other better by sharing stories as we worked. We also jammed out to some music of course.

We are really enjoying embracing the culture here and we were excited that today we also got to go to a popular event…  Lucha Libre! Mexican wresting! It was very entertaining. Our new friends that are staying at the same place as us from Texas joined us also!

It’s been a long day and late night. We are getting up early again tomorrow to keep going on making the changes and capturing the vision of the missionaries. Tomorrow is the big day that we get to welcome the university students. Even though most of us do not speak Spanish, we are going to embrace the students anyway and trust that God will lead us in our encounters.
