Tonight ends Day 3 for us here in Puebla. As we are quickly learning we in “flexico”, a
term meaning… while in Mexico be flexible. Today was a day of flexibility right
from the start. On our drive to Casa Verde we were told upon our arrival we
would be eating French toast, bacon and a whole host of other delicious treats.
After arriving to soggy uncooked toast and bacon still left in the fridge, we
quickly had to become flexible (I, Angela really wanted bacon). The gas for cooking had run out and it would
be a several hour wait to get more, so we walked to a near by restaurant and
had a breakfast of quesadillas, eggs and delicious fresh juices. (I must admit,
I loved every bite of breakfast despite the fact there was no bacon!)
After breakfast and a short walk back we began working
towards finishing up projects around Casa Verde. Half the team painted and got
the room set for En Vivo (the student night). The other half of our team worked
toward finishing up a lobby area to make it more inviting for students. That
consisted of painting, laying carpet and setting up furniture.
We must admit we were pretty tired come lunch time. It was a
nice break to sit and relax for a moment and drink lots and lots of water.
The rest of the day was getting Casa Verde in tip top shape
for En Vivo. We cooked food for the
students (and yes we had gas!... the cooking kind!)
By about 8 pm students slowly started trickling in. They
were well greeted by staff, interns and even other students. One of the coolest moments of the night was
as we were worshiping a familiar song was sung. “I run into your arms” was
played and despite the fact it was in Spanish, we were able to worship along
with the students. No language barrier can change the fact that we serve one
God and through him we can worship together. It was also really neat to see the
staff interact with the students. The students were their friends and to see
the excitement on the faces of the students and staff when they saw each other
was priceless. Pure joy and deep friendship are the only ways to describe what
we witnessed.
After En Vivo we got to interact with the students and hear
their stories. God sure does amazing things through the lives of his people.
Today, was a day of work and fun and most of all being fully
present here with those God has divinely placed in our lives. We cannot wait to
see what tomorrow holds!
Through Christ Alone,
Angela and Ashley
