"!que padre!" - Mexico GO Team - Friday, August 9

Friday, August 9, 2015

This morning we had our last breakfast at Casa Verde, which consisted of pancakes, bacon, and fresh fruit prepared by Dawn, one of the El Pozo missionaries. It was so good! She has made breakfast for us most of the week. She’s a great cook and we were so appreciative.

After breakfast and washing a mountain of dishes by hand (there’s no dishwasher at Casa Verde), we got back to finishing our projects that we had been working on most of the week. Maegan went back to finish a painting she’s been working on for the lobby where students can hang out. The painting goes along with the coffee theme, and is a picture of a coffee cup with the question, “?Que llena tu taza?” meaning “What fills your cup?” The purpose behind the question is to prompt students to think about what fills them up in life, what makes them happy and satisfied, and to ultimately know that Jesus is the only one who can truly fill us in life. Sam finished the photo booth wall with Oliver, a student from Germany, and Rut. It was very “!que padre!” as they say in Spanish, meaning “cool” or “neat” to work on a project with someone who speaks a different language. Surprisingly we communicated with each other very well anyway by trying to speak each other’s language and a lot of finger pointing. The rest of the group continued to finish up their projects around Casa Verde.

Late afternoon we were able to go to the orphanage and hang out with the kids. We brought them gifts like bracelets, toothbrushes, socks, and Bath & Body Works mini hand sanitizers.  They were very grateful. They were squirting hand sanitizer in everyone’s hands and smelling the different scents. They’ll probably use the whole bottle by the end of the day, but at least they had fun! They also enjoyed picking out which color bracelets they wanted. One little girl wanted to paint Sam’s fingernails and then Angela painted a little girl’s nails. Another older girl knew how to do many different braids and braided the hair of five of us. Alan, Andy, and Jordan (one of the El Pozo missionaries) played soccer with the boys. We wanted to be a blessing to them and they ended up being a blessing to us, which is really no surprise. We will keep them in our prayers. Please keep them in yours as well.

Time flies and we can’t believe the trip is almost over. We have had such a great experience here that we will never forget. We are looking forward to our last full day tomorrow!
