“Let the culture have you” #MtnDR15m day 4

Culture is a GREAT thing!  The interesting thing about culture is that you really don’t even realize that you are a part of a culture until you leave yours behind and insert yourself into a culture different from your own…then the challenges startJ!  At Mountain, when we prepare our GO Teams to travel around the world, we have a saying, “Let the culture have you”, it’s our way of saying that we will fit into our receiving/host culture with graciousness and readiness to learn and appreciate it.
Here in the Dominican Republic there is hardly a better way to “fit” into the culture than through the game of dominos…especially with the men folk.
On day four, we had a guy’s night with dominos being the sport of choice. There was some good old fashioned trash talking and it was a great time! During the event, the ladies served brownies with ice cream and malta (if you’ve never had some, you’re missing out…you can get it at WegmansJ).
We had about 30 guys show up and the game was set up tournament style meaning there was only one team that could win. This is one of two nights where we will set up the domino tournament. If day one is any indication of how day two is going to go, we cannot wait!
Tom and Lloyd went out and broke bread with two of the church leaders for lunch. The conversations were deep and encouraging.  It was a great opportunity to express our unity with the Dominican church as we shared the joys and struggles of ministry.
We are a bit behind on the blog because we were tired after the game so we wound up cleaning up and going to bed.
We love and miss our friends and family…can’t wait to see you all Saturday night!
