Friday in the DR

Today the team got a morning of rest.  The team had plans for the morning, but God had others!  So we enjoyed some much needed team time.  After lunch we returned to the house we were working on earlier in the week to finish construction.  We “assisted” with putting in a concrete floor.  Mostly we mixed some concrete and carried buckets, although Silvia helped with spreading the concrete.  It was a blessing to see the finished product and see the look on the family’s face seeing their new kitchen come together.
During construction, Ellie and Rayona stayed behind to make brownies for the men’s domino tournament.  Their oven was challenging at best, with the temperature not staying consistent and the oven not being level.  After some turning of pans and about 6 hours of baking, the brownies were successfully brought into the world.  We even made an extra pan to celebrate Ellie’s belated birthday and surprised her.
After construction and baking, Lucy, Ellie, TJ and myself had to make a grocery run to finish some food shopping for gifts.  We enjoyed some chaotic Dominican grocery shopping at the Lilo.  We managed to get everything we needed for the two domino prizes and to bless a third family who had a fire in their house.
That night we had the men’s domino tournament.  30 men showed up to play dominos.  It was a good time for everyone, including the Americans who had no idea what was actually going on.  The ladies served brownies, ice cream and malta.  We affirmed that TJ does not like malta, the rest of us already knew, except for Lloyd who still enjoys it, please keep that in your prayers.  The American men did get to enjoy a short game of dominos once a table freed up.  The young guys (myself and TJ) managed to beat the seasoned veterans (Teddy and Tom), by a 99 point lead.  Not to brag.
Everyone had a late night.  The men lived God’s frat party out, laughed, hung some fans and chords that were probably less than OSHA approved and laughed some more.  The ladies had a giggle fest prior to turning in fore the night (or so I am told by Ellie, they where lights out by the time we got in from the tournament).
So that was today.  The trip is slowly coming to an end, but we have a lot more ground to cover, even if we are burned, tired, stinky and ravaged by mosquitos.  Keep us, our families and our new Dominican families in your prayers!!!!!

Zac
