Sunday, October 9, 2016- Day 2
The Team woke
up refreshed after a much needed night’s rest, ready to begin our work, and we
all agreed on one thing—it is HOT here! I’m pretty sure
that most of us have never sweat this much in our lives J. We also met
the leadership team who travelled here from Iowa, Minnesota, and Illinois that
is also staying with us here at the center, and those who have been here
before, especially Rayona, had a joyful reunion with friends not seen for an
entire year.
We began our
day with a powerful worship service that consisted not only of Spanish and
English, but also a dash of Haitian Creole. For some of us, it was our first
time attending church in another language and culture, and it was an experience
that will not be soon forgotten. Several Mountain Team members (Ellie and Zac
on guitar, TJ on the cajon, and vocal led by Silvia) shared a few songs in
Spanish with the congregation.
Leaders from
the three other sister churches joined ours after lunch to begin the two day
leadership conference. It was an intense afternoon that stretched into the
night as Tom, Ken (Lund, Karla Cachiaras’ brother, head of the CDEM Board), and
Silvia all taught different lessons about being an effective leader. Lloyd,
Teddy, Lucy, Silvia, and Lydia translated these lessons into Spanish and
English as needed so that everyone present was able to learn and take something
away from our lesson discussion time. Gina shared that she was especially
touched by the comments and feedback that the leaders from the Dominican
churches shared with us.
We turned in
for the night tired and sweaty, but grateful and excited about what God has
already done in our short time here and what is yet to come.
