Team Nicaragua - Day 1- Travel Day

Team Nicaragua has been planning this trip since the spring, and it was almost surreal today when we all finally met at the church at 5:15 to be sent on our way to Unleash Gods Love in Nicaragua. For many months as we have had to plan and sort out the details of our trip, it really seemed to come together over the past several weeks since we have had some great team meetings and face to face with our FCA Nicaragua host Jeff Izzo.  Let me tell you, when you turn things over to God, God shows up, and that He did as we were making final preparations for our trip.

First let me say thanks to our many trip supporters, both financially and prayerfully.  We wouldn’t be here without you!!  I was hoping to be able to share some of our trip through this blog with you so that you can have an idea of what God is up to down here in Nicaragua.

Team Leaders Frank and Juniper Ernest have done such a great job coordinating the last minute details and helping prepare our team for what has started out to be a great trip to share His love and help support FCA Nicaragua.

Our day started very early as The Allred’s, The Ernest’s, and The Roberts all met at Mountain to begin our long awaited departure to Managua, Nicaragua.  Some reflection and prayer from Tom Moen and we were ready to hit the road.  Thanks to Gene Dobbins for sharing his time to get us delivered safely for the first leg of our trip to Dulles Airport.

We had a great flight into San Salvador, and most everybody had a great chance to settle in on the day with a very comfortable flight.  Once we landed, we encountered some back and forth between the gates until we were able to finally find our flight that would finish our airtime for the day.  Leaving a little bit late, we finally touched down in Managua late in the afternoon to be met by some very gracious hosts and friends.  Jeff and Erinn Izzo and their daughter, Julia, who arrived just before us home for Christmas break from Hunter College in New York City, along with their sons Nate and Sam, met us with water bottles and some great Nicaraguan cheer as we headed out into the city of Managua.

Our first stop was to try some Nicaraguan food.  A buffet style feast of rice, plantains, and beans, steak and chicken was enjoyed mostly by all.  It was a good chance for all of us to sit down and enjoy a meal and some prayer together to get us all re-acquainted.

On our way to our lodging for the week, we were dropped off in downtown Managua to enjoy a walk through town where we witnessed a wonderful setup of many Christmas displays. And these were not just ordinary displays, these were elaborate set ups to share and witness to the  birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ. This is the reason we celebrate Christmas, this is the reason that we are excited to be in Managua, and this is why we are ready to Unleash Love in Nicaragua.

Some wind down time, especially for the kids, at the end of the evening, and some planning with our hosts as we prepare what our time will look like while we are here for the next week.  We definitely have some good stuff planned, and are excited to start our time serving here with The Izzo’s in Nicaragua.

Time for bed, this concludes day 1.
