Here's the first blog post for the Kenya team.
After 32 hours of travel we made it to Kenya Sunday
night. Today was our first full day in Nairobi and it was a busy one. We first
arrived at Pangani, the headquarters of Missions of Hope International. We had
"orientation" where we learned the history of MoHI and what they do.
Missions of Hope International works with education, community health
evangelism, micro finance, and sustainability initiatives. Afterwards, the team
went into the Mathare Valley slums to walk through and do home visits. Entering
The Valley is an overwhelming, yet joyous experience. The smell overwhelms you,
dirt roads are covered in trash and waste, with nearly a million people living
in tiny shanties. Yet, nearly everyone had a smile on their face. The children
ran to us wanting to hold our hand and take pictures. We greeted each other
with a smile. It's very refreshing seeing so many people full of life.
Towards the end of the day a lot of the team members were
able to meet their child they sponsor. It's a wonderful feeling being able to
meet the beautiful child/children you've been sponsoring every month. Their
faces lit up when they received their bag full of goodies.
I'm so excited to see what the rest of this trip will
bring.
Those little boys are adorable
