The cars came from Jarrettsville, Belcamp, Bel Air and
Forest Hill. The cars were filled with 8 excited highly motivated missionaries
bound for the Apache Youth Mission in Arizona. It was dark when we first met on
Saturday at 5 am but we all knew something wasn't quite right: It was the loud
screeching noise of the New Life Center's alarm system. Oh that alarm works.
Quite well. After 2 sherriff deputies joined us, we were able to turn the alarm
off. Quite the start to our mission for sure!
After a great ride by Karl, we got to BWI in plenty of time
for a safe flight into Phoenix where it was nearing 100 degrees at 11:30am. The
8 of us loaded into cars and after meeting former director Seth Harkins for
lunch, undertook a safe drive into the reservation.
Our accommodations were perfect as all 8 of us were able to
stay together at the home of our good friend Ms. Lottie Darby. After
unloading our bags, we met up with AYM's new director Stephen Lucad and his
family as well as our good friend and MCCer Kat High for pizza. Stephen
summarized his vision for the Apache children as preparing them to faithfully
answer the question of how one can get into heaven. A powerful vision for More
than children. After a short grocery shopping stop, we returned home and
retired by 11pm. A long day for sure but all were eager for our first full day
on mission.
