We all awoke to a beautiful Sunday morning. Cool, brisk,
sunny. We're at about 6500' elevation. Way higher than sizzling Phoenix. The
forecast was for heavy rains as it is the monsoon season here. We started our
day with breakfast and devotions and then proceeded to White Mountain Christian
Church, our sister congregation for a 10:30am service. The congregation was
comprised of mostly reservation moms with many children, along with a few men.
We got there early so we had time to renew relations established years
ago and form new relations with others.
A missionary team from Indiana (11 youth and 5 adults) led
the service in song, followed by long time Pastor Pete seeking Yeah God
praises and prayer requests. Virtually all the praises and requests concerned
the role of alcohol in family life. The message addressed the elements of
true Christianity in contrast to convenient Christianity. The service then
concluded with a community dinner of spaghetti, salad and brownies.
After service, the Indiana missionaries and a number of
children went back to "The Kennel", AYM's center piece community
center for games and conversation. We shared our mission themes/objectives
which were very similar. One of their leaders said that he was undertaking new duties
in Idaho launching a new initiative to help victims of sex trafficing. We keep
him and his family in our prayers. After several hours of fellowship, we locked
the doors and then took the children home.
We returned home for dinner and devotions. We learned that
Maryland had received a torrent of rain and a tornado. Our prayers for
everyone's safety and quick recovery. Lights out at 11pm for a good rest for a
full day tomorrow.
