Today, Saturday we hosted 62 Angaza Camp Mentors, young adult men and women who show Jesus to the 6th (40 Mentors) and 10th (22 Mentors) graders during their camp experiences. Our Team wanted to bless them with fun and games, worship and singing, teaching and edifying as well as eating breakfast and lunch with them. What follows are thoughts from our Team regarding our day.
Chuck:
Joyful best describes them it shows in the way they treat everyone and boy what a joyful noise they created when they were singing. Their faith and love of got came through in spades. It is infectious.
Linda:
I was so moved be a part of the mentors singing and praising God. Even though I didn’t understand the words, I felt the praise, glory and love for Christ. It made me very emotional. And just watching their faces as they praise…very moving. The joy in simple games like bingo and how they had so much fun and cheered each other on.
Sam:
1. I spoke with a young man named Sam and he shared with me that he graduated from MOHI and that he was a sponsored child and Patty was one of the sponsors. His father left when he was young and he was raised by his mother. He is Masai and shared that because he now knows JESUS he does not practice some of their traditions and customs. Now he is a camp mentor so that he can pass on the same love and hope that he received from being part of MOHI
2. I was talking with a young lady named Stella, I told her that I liked her top and that it was very pretty. She asked if I wanted to have her top because she wanted to give it to me. The heart of this young lady who wanted to “gift” me the shirt, literally, off her back just shows the gratitude and hospitality of the people here in Kenya.
Lisa:
1st Takeaway…
Their love for the Lord is palpable. Their strong faith poured out in their smiles, their singing, their camaraderie, their kindness, the way they honored each other with gentleness, respect, and joy! It was a blessing to witness and I found myself overwhelmed with emotion many times.
2nd Takeaway…
They were curious and wanted to know more about my family, home and country. But as I answered, in that moment, I felt a tug—I didn’t want my world to taint theirs.
Mike:
The opportunity we had to sit with a small group during lunch. No matter the age, language, cultural differences, you can always connect with the breaking of bread. Maybe that is why Jesus spent a lot of time eating with people.
Also, I’m always amazed at how fired up people are for Christ while worshipping.
Ari:
1. at breakfast I sat with five girls named Maya, Nica, Nina, and Automatic. These girls were all in their 20s like me, going through the same stage of life. As we each shared insight on certain topics, God really moved through their hearts and mine. At the end of the day, Maya handed me a bracelet that she had made herself, telling me to wear it so that I would always remember to pray for her. Just a small conversation went a long way in not only their lives, but mine.
2. I have never, EVER, heard worship the way I did today. The pure joy, EVERY single person singing at the top of their lungs, dancing and rejoicing. I was overwhelmed with gratitude.
Jess:
Hearing all of the mentors sing with love and passion was one of my two greatest parts of today. I also had the opportunity to talk to a young man who has been employed by MOHI for three years. His testimony was lovely when I asked him about it. Tell me about his father's suicide and his mother's death when he was in middle school. He claimed that in order to support two of his siblings, he had to really step it up. He talked about how much he loved his siblings and how they wanted to follow in his spiritual footsteps. I've been able to share my testimony because of this moment with him. I had a great time discussing Christ with you and sharing what we had learned from him. We also talked about God’s blessings, which has given me a chance to share song call Million of miracles. His name is Ken
Preston:
1. Today I saw TRUE JOY. Every single one of them was filled with the most beautiful joy. Everyone was so friendly and happy to be here. Everyone loved Everyone.
2. Worship we did today was the most powerful thing I have seen. Everyone’s voice united in harmony and dancing with a pure heart was amazing. They worshipped from their HEART, with a posture faced towards the Lord. It was the purest worship I have ever heard.
Now for some pictures...
