Brandi-
Today we spent time with the special needs program at Baba Dogo, and I honestly don’t have the words to fully express what my heart felt as we left.
In the surrounding community alone, there are more than 300 children with disabilities—and even that number is likely much higher. Many of these children do not have access to the care, therapy, equipment, and support they desperately need.
This October, Missions of Hope International will open a new facility designed to better serve children with disabilities. It is a beautiful step forward, but it also brings a greater need for caregivers, therapists, medical equipment, and trained professionals. Right now, one incredible man, Jasma, serves as the occupational therapist for the program while also functioning as the school nurse. To say he is stretched thin would be an understatement.
The burden often falls on parents, many of whom are single mothers. Because their children require constant care, many are unable to work and provide for their families. Some are forced to make impossible choices just to survive.
Today I met Terri and her 15-year-old daughter, Gloria. I struggled to hold back tears as I listened to the story of a mother who has sacrificed so much out of pure love for her child. Her strength, perseverance, and devotion were humbling to witness.
As Americans, we are blessed with resources that we often take for granted. Seeing these families reminded me that access to care, therapy, education, and support is not a guarantee for everyone.
Lord, I pray that You would provide every need for this new center. Raise up caregivers, therapists, sponsors, and resources so that every child can receive the care they deserve and every parent can find hope and support. May this center be a place where children are seen, valued, and loved, and where families are reminded that they are not alone.
Today broke my heart, but it also showed me extraordinary courage, resilience, and love. These children are precious. These parents are heroes. And they are deeply worthy of our prayers, support, and compassion. ❤️
We ended the day with dinner with Missionary friends Pat and Katie Gerber and a pizza party at their house...love those guys!
