"A LONG Day" Mexico GO Team Day One

Aug 8th, 2015

Today was a LONG day. 4 AM team meets at Mountain. 6:50 AM fly to Charlotte North Carolina. 9:35 fly to Mexico City. 3 PM catch a bus to Puebla. 5 PM arrive at BAM center. 6 PM dinner. 7 PM meet the missionaries. 10 PM writing this blog. Today was a LONG day. And even though today was a very long day, it was a day filled with laughs, group bonding, pickled cactus, and naps. Lots of naps. And yes, we did all have a taste of cactus. Our team was blessed along the way with safe and convenient trips through security checkpoints, baggage claims, customs checks, and bus stops. We even passed through a roll-of-the-dice style random baggage search at the Mexico City airport without incident.

After a long day of travel, we finally arrived at the Business As Missions, or BAM, center in Puebla. We were soon joined by the staff of El Pozo for a mouthwatering meal of Tacos el Pastor. During this time, we had the opportunity to sit around the table and meet with the staff with whom we will be serving this week in Puebla. Everyone was very excited that we would be helping El Pozo on mission this week. After dinner, we gathered in the family room of the BAM center to hear a little bit more about El Pozo and their vision for campus ministry in Puebla.

One of the key ways in which we serve the staff at El Pozo is by loving them. Tonight, we did that by delivering them their favorite home treats and resources that they cannot get in Mexico. Who would have ever thought that a couple jars of peanut butter, jars of pickles, and bags of Pay Days would mean so much to someone? To our surprise, they had already purchased personalized gifts for each member of our team, with a hand written note of encouragement.

We ended our LONG day by gathering together as a family and spending time in corporate devotion and prayer. Today has indeed been a long day, but we’re so excited to see how God will work through us and in us this week. Thank you for all your prayers. We couldn’t do this without you.
