Just how do you define Poverty?

Alarms went off on time and morning walks were completed. Breakfast done. Reflections on yesterday's service finished.  Devotions completed. All ready for "lunch day!"

Early on we recognized that we could undertake steps to help students with some basic life skills. Also, we thought there were things we could do to lift up students self-confidence and self-esteem. Finally, we thought we could provide all the students with a festive meal and celebration. So...we thought these circumstances were right for the students to prepare and serve a luncheon to other students, staff and us.

The menu was eggplant parmigani, salad, garlic bread and cake. Under our supervision, these high school age students cut up vegetables, fried them, assembled the meal in pans (eggplant, cheese, tomato sauce), shredded heads of lettuce and tomatoes, cut up loaves of bread, buttered and garliced them and then baked them. After a blessing, service for about 25 people. Clean up afterwards to teach good skills as well.

The cooking took several hours, so we engaged the other children in many games and activities. Badmitten, henna, journaling, nail painting, ladder ball, frisbee, scattergories, billiards, banannagram and basketball. After taking many students home, we returned to our residence in the evening.

After devotions, Larry presented his "poverty talk"-a discussion about how every economic class suffers from its own type of poverty. Some poverty being for basic needs while other poverty being for joy and peace.

After this long energetic day, no violations of the lights out policy! See you tomorrow!
